38th Annual IFPA World Footbag Championships
This is a past event. Saturday, August 12 at 2:00pm 6:00pm
Oregon Convention Center, Exhibit Hall E 777 N.E. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Portland, OR 97232
Presented by PG Long Carpet Cleaning.
Sole Purpose Footbag is proud to host the most prestigious footbag event of the year.
The aerial jousting of footbag net competition will shock and enthrall the crowds. This sport is most easily described as a cross between tennis and beach volleyball, played on a badminton-sized court, over a five foot net using only the feet! Footbag freestyle competitors perform riveting, acrobatic art. This combination of fluid gymnastic skill and musical interpretation reaches its pinnacle of expertise in world class competition. Top players spend hundreds of hours perfecting their choreographed routines for this event.
Returning to Portland after 20 years, this reunion promises to be epic. The first footbag was called Hacky Sack™. Invented in Oregon City in 1972, by John Stalberger and Mike Marshall, as a tool to help rehabilitate an old sports injury. Today, footbags are used in a variety of different competitive and cooperative sports. Recent host cities include Helsinki, Paris, Berlin, Copenhagen, Prague, Montreal and Warsaw. Footbag Hall of Fame members and young talent from around the globe will be happy to kick with you.
This event will occur August 6-12, 2017. From August 6-7, the event will be at Westmoreland Park. From August 8-12, the event will be held at the Oregon Convention Center.
