A Bread Factory Part One & Two

This is a past event. Sunday, May 5 at 6:00pm

NW Film Center/Whitsell Auditorium 1219 SW Park Avenue, Portland, OR, 97205

Directed by Patrick Wang. United States, 2018.

When a ragtag theater troupe and community arts space in the lightly fictional town of Checkford, New York has their existence threatened by the encroaching processes of gentrification, an artistic community must band together and fight for their place in the cultural landscape. Led by the experienced artists Dorothea (Tyne Daly) and Greta (Elisabeth Henry), The Bread Factory is a pillar of the community, but when faced with construction of a massive arts complex down the street by two exceedingly strange Chinese performance artists, they must make the argument for small arts spaces—although the other side has a few nefarious tricks up their sleeve. Featuring a fantastic ensemble performance from Wang’s eclectic cast of newcomers and experienced veterans, A Bread Factory is one of the year’s most kaleidoscopic works and a crucial community portrait. In English.

There will be a 15-minute intermission between parts. Director Patrick Wang in attendance for post-film Q&As at all three screenings.
