JAW: A Playwright's Festival 2019
Sunday, July 28
Portland Center Stage at The Armory 128 N.W. 11th Ave., Portland, OR
"A summer highlight for theater aficionados (or, really, for anyone interested in the creative process), Portland Center Stage’s annual playwrights’ festival celebrates and supports the painstaking craft of writing for the stage. Following more than a week of intensive work by writers, actors and directors, a weekend of free staged readings let’s the public in on exciting works in progress, plays that frequently go on to popular productions around the country.
This year’s slate includes an adaptation of E.M. Forster’s Howards End, a solo show about the father of the diarist Anne Frank, an examination of human value through the lens of human bondage, a set of short works by select high-school students, and even an audience-participation playwrights’ slam." - Oregon Arts Watch
The Just Add Water Festival, aka JAW, is a key part of Portland Center Stage’s play development effort, and it culminates in two days of staged readings of several brand new plays on the company’s main stage that are free and open to the public.
