Jayna Conkey: Withdrawn
This is a past event. Saturday, February 23 at 12:00pm 5:00pm
Roll-Up Gallery 1715 S.E. Spokane St., Portland OR 97202
Nevada-based artist Jayna Conkey's photographic series Withdrawn documents mutilated library books from around the country, transforming their pages into new, multi-layered images. The resulting photographs of these anonymous interventions embody the twin responses of censorship and voyeurism. Having originated at the Multnomah County Library, the series comes full circle to exhibit in Portland for the first time.
Jayna Conkey works primarily in photography and has exhibited nationally and internationally. She earned her MFA from the University of Colorado, Boulder and taught at the Oregon College of Art and Craft in Portland, Oregon from 1997-2000. She is currently a Professor of Photography and Graphic Design at Western Nevada College.
Opening reception on Friday, February 1st from 5-9 p.m.
