Ombra Musici: Violinist Tomas Cotik Plays Bach
This is a past event. Saturday, February 9 at 7:00pm 9:00pm
Lincoln Recital Hall Room 75, in the basement. 1620 S.W. Park Ave., Portland, OR 97201
In the frame of the Portland Winter Light Festival 2019, the facade of the Portland State University (PSU) library will become a canvas for the projected silhouette of PSU music professors Tomas Cotik (violin), Susan Chan (piano), Joel Bluestone (percussion) and Barbara Heilmair (clarinet) as they each perform a solo work.
The work’s title, Ombra Musici, or “Musician’s Shadow” in Italian, directly references the visual content of the work, connects to the Italian basis for classical music description and alludes to a shared ephemerality and capacity for augmentation and amplification between shadow play and large-scale projection.
Concurrently inside Lincoln Recital Hall on February 9, Tomas Cotik will present a solo violin recital presenting a selection of his latest project, a recording of Bach's Sonatas and Partitas for violin solo as well as other works with guests including pianist Chuck Dillard.
