The Portland Black Film Festival aims to offer diverse perspectives and stories in an art form all too often dominated by white filmmakers.
This year's festival headliner is actor Joe Morton, who will join us for a special screening of the 1984 John Sayles film BROTHER FROM ANOTHER PLANET, showing on a 35mm preservation print courtesy of the UCLA Film & Television Archive. Morton is best known for his role as Eli Pope on SCANDAL and as the ill-fated scientist Miles Dyson in TERMINATOR 2.
The rest of the festival screenings include BLADE, STORMY WEATHER and an extremely rare 35mm print of THE SPOOK WHO SAT BY THE DOOR.
Curated by Portland writer/filmmaker David F. Walker, the Portland Black Film Festival examines the black experience in America and showcases the cinematic achievements of African American stars and filmmakers. The festival runs Feb 5-25 at the Hollywood Theatre.
