The American Future: Abigail DeVille
Saturday, January 12
Portland Institute for Contemporary Art (PICA) 15 N.E. Hancock St., Portland, OR
"DeVille brings her monumental, vibrant assemblage work to PICA for an installation that's meant to serve as a “model for reflection.” Comprised of foraged materials, printed matter and anything else she could get her hands on, DeVille’s site-specific installation examines 200 years of history, colonialism and labor in America.
Thomas Jefferson's commission of the Lewis and Clark expedition and his obsessive work on his home, Monticello, form the historical focal points for this work. DeVille will turn her inventive, incisive eye on the “paradox of Jeffersonian ideals” and how history relates to the “entropy of now.” - Oregon Arts Watch
